Centre-Right Coalition Expected to Retain Control in Calabria Elections

Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni’s centre-right coalition appears poised to maintain its hold on Calabria, with Governor Roberto Occhiuto projected to secure between 59% and 63% of the vote in the recent regional elections. This information comes from an Opinio Italia exit poll conducted for the State broadcaster Rai.

According to Ansa News Agency, the centre-left’s candidate, Pasquale Tridico, a member of the left-wing 5-Star Movement (M5S) and former head of the pensions and social security agency INPS, is anticipated to receive between 35.5% and 39.5% of the vote. Tridico’s candidacy was supported by two-time ex-premier Giuseppe Conte.

The elections in Calabria, which took place over Sunday and Monday, have garnered significant attention as a measure of support for the centre-right coalition led by Meloni. The projected results indicate a continuation of the coalition’s influence in the region, further solidifying its political standing.
