Cabinet to Consider Giving Greater Powers to Rome

Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni’s cabinet is set to discuss a bill giving the city of Rome more powers during a meeting on Wednesday, sources said on Tuesday.

According to Ansa News Agency, the move would see the capital inserted into Article 114 of the Constitution that defines the structures of the Italian Republic – the State, the regions, provinces, metropolitan cities, and municipalities. As a result, the Rome city assembly would gain legislative powers and greater control over urban planning, transport, commerce, tourism, culture, and the environment.

Other spheres would remain under the jurisdiction of the Lazio regional government, such as health, waste management, and energy.
