Rome: Defence Minister Guido Crosetto on Thursday criticised the recent protests in Italy in response to Israeli forces intercepting boats participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla. Crosetto questioned the effectiveness of local disruptive actions in addressing the plight of Palestinians.
According to Ansa News Agency, Crosetto expressed skepticism about the potential impact of such protests, asking, “Does anyone really believe that the blockade of a station, an airport, a highway, or the destruction of a store in Italy will bring relief to the Palestinian people?” He further questioned whether such actions could influence the decisions made by the government of another nation, concluding that they would not.
Crosetto emphasized that destructive actions within Italy would not serve the intended purpose and would likely have adverse effects on the Italian public. He stated, “Burning everything down, stopping everything, scaring everyone, serves no one and will only hurt all the Italian people.”
Highlighting a more constructive approach, Crosetto suggested that genuine solidarity with the Palestinian people would involve efforts to address the situation in Gaza directly, rather than inciting chaos in Italian cities.
