Burdens to Be Shared Among NATO Allies, Rubio Tells Tajani

Rome: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio engaged in a significant dialogue with Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, emphasizing the critical nature of the U.S.-Italy alliance for the safety, security, and prosperity of the American populace, as stated by State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce.

According to Ansa News Agency, Bruce highlighted that the discussion between Secretary Rubio and Foreign Minister Tajani underlined the necessity for equitable burden sharing among all NATO allies. The call, which occurred on Sunday evening Italian time, also explored avenues to enhance the U.S.-Italy partnership by focusing on mutual global priorities.

On Sunday, Tajani shared on X about having a “first, long and friendly phone conversation” with Secretary Rubio. He underscored that relations with the US, alongside Europe, remain a central element of Italy’s foreign policy. The conversation reflected a full strategic alignment on issues such as peace and reconstruction efforts in Ukraine and Gaza.

Tajani further articulated their shared commitment to cooperating in regions like Africa, Latin America, and the Indo-Pacific to fortify Western unity. Both leaders reaffirmed a “relationship of trust” and expressed a commitment to strengthening commercial relations.
