Blackout in Milan Area, Working to Get Power Back

Milan: A heat-induced blackout hit the Milan area Tuesday, after blackouts in Florence and Bergamo, and power companies said they were working to restore full power. Episodes of blackout, due to the exceptional and prolonged heat wave, have affected some areas of Sesto San Giovanni, Cinisello Balsamo, Bresso, Cormano, and Cusano Milanino.

According to Ansa News Agency, E-Distribuzione, which deals with the distribution of electricity, believes it is necessary to specify that the “disruptions are a direct consequence of the exceptional temperatures of these days (so-called heat waves) which have caused simultaneous failures on multiple sections of various electrical networks operated in the territories in question.”

As also ascertained at a technical-scientific level, the high temperatures, even at night, combined with the lack of precipitation, lead to an anomalous functioning of the network, explains the company, which “activated promptly with a dedicated Task Force, intervening on the field, through the repair of faults and the prompt installation of Generators and a Power Station, to reduce the inconvenience and ensure the gradual return to normality.”

The company will continue its activities until the complete restoration of the electrical service, operating in full compliance with the safety procedures that these delicate interventions require. “All operations are carried out in constant coordination with the interested municipal administrations, to facilitate the work of the technicians and facilitate the timely activation of any initiatives to support citizens,” explains E-Distribuzione.
