Blackout in Bergamo: ‘Cables Overheated by Temperatures’

Bergamo: Several areas of the center of Bergamo have been affected since this afternoon by a heat-linked blackout that has also caused the traffic lights to go out. Several shops and artisanal businesses are without electricity, as well as private homes, and several people were stuck in elevators.

According to Ansa News Agency, Enel has announced that it is working to restore power and that the problem concerns the medium voltage line. The cause could be linked to the heat of the last few hours, “which leads to overheating and the expansion of the electrical cables, not to mention the use of air conditioners that overload the network.”

The blackout had already affected the historic district of CittĀ  Alta this morning, while in the afternoon various areas of the center and the area of Atalanta’s Gewiss soccer stadium.
