Auto Sector Collapsing, EU Must Be Realistic – Urso

Brussels: Business and Made in Italy Minister Adolfo Urso on Monday reiterated the government’s call for a rethink of the EU’s Green Deal policies during a session of the Competitiveness Council in Brussels that was open to the public. “The automotive sector is collapsing in Europe,” Urso said. “Plant closures and thousands, tens of thousands of layoffs, are announced across the entire automotive supply chain every day. It is essential to address what our Europe needs realistically, without ideological blinkers, but with flexibility and pragmatism”.

According to Ansa News Agency, the European Green Deal is a set of policies that seek to make the EU climate neutral by 2050 with the ecological crisis and global heating caused by human greenhouse gas emissions increasingly a threat to the economy and to people’s health and safety. Among other things, it mandates the phase-out of combustion engines for all new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles sold within the European Union by 2035.
