Athletics: Furlani Says Aspires to Do Even Better After Winning Gold

Nanjing: Italy’s Mattia Furlani expressed his aspirations to achieve even greater success after clinching the men’s long jump gold at the athletics indoor world championships held in Nanjing on Sunday. “I never thought I could compete with the world’s greats, to have succeeded is an honor,” said the 20-year-old Italo-Senegalese from Marino near Rome.

According to Ansa News Agency, Furlani reflected on his performance, stating, “I did an excellent competition, but I could have done even better, I aspire to do better. In any case, I am very happy.” He highlighted his continuous improvement, noting that even his run-up was better with each jump.

Furlani secured the gold with a remarkable long jump of 8.30 meters, “achieved in an attempt that was supposed to serve to qualify.” He described the victory as “something out of the ordinary” and emphasized his determination to maintain this level of performance.

Looking ahead to the Tokyo World Championships, Furlani expressed confidence, stating, “With tenacity and clinical edge, I can do even better,” as he concluded his remarks.
