Athletics: Battocletti in 1st Campaccio Win in 31 Years
Milan: Italy’s Olympic 10,000 metre silver medallist Nadia Battocletti on Monday brought the first Azzurra victory in the historic Campaccio cross-country race near Milan in 31 years. The 24-year-old from Cles in Val di Non, who recently won the European cross-country championships, dominated the race at San Giorgio su Legnano, leading from start to finish.
According to Ansa News Agency, the last tricolour win in the ‘classicissima’ was by Silvia Sommaggio in 1994. Battocletti’s victory marks a significant achievement in Italian athletics, ending a three-decade-long gap in securing the top spot at this prestigious event. Her performance reaffirms her position as a leading athlete in the cross-country discipline, showcasing her strength and strategy in a highly competitive field.
