Bergamo: Atalanta secured their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League by defeating AS Roma 2-1 in Bergamo on Monday, thereby ending the visitors’ impressive 19-match unbeaten run.
According to Ansa News Agency, Ibrahim Sulemana scored the decisive goal for Atalanta in the second half, following Bryan Cristante’s equalizer for Roma, which came after Ademola Lookman had given the hosts an early lead. The victory ensures Atalanta, currently in third place with 71 points in Serie A, maintain a seven-point advantage over fifth-placed Lazio, confirming their top-four finish.
Despite the setback, sixth-placed Roma remain hopeful of securing a top-four spot. They trail Lazio and fourth-placed Juventus by just one point, with Juventus and Lazio having drawn their match on Saturday.
