Aouani Secures Bronze in Men’s Marathon at World Athletics Championships
Tokyo: Italy’s Iliass Aouani won the bronze medal in the men’s marathon at the 2025 world athletics championships in Tokyo on Monday. The 29-year-old, who was born in Morocco but grew up in Italy, completed the podium that was headed by Tanzania’s Alphonce Simbu, who beat Germany’s Amanal Petros in a sprint photo-finish.
According to Ansa News Agency, Aouani expressed his pride in representing Italy. “I am proud to be Italian,” he told RaiSport. He highlighted his achievement of being the first Italian to win two marathon medals in the same season, having previously secured European gold. Aouani dedicated his world bronze medal to Italy, acknowledging the support he has received from the country throughout his career.
This victory marks Italy’s fourth medal at the championships. Earlier, Leonardo Fabbri earned bronze in the men’s shot put, Nadia Battocletti secured silver in the women’s 10,000 metres, and Antonella Palmisano took second place in the women’s 35 km walk.
