Another Italian Volunteer Feared Dead in Ukraine Conflict

Rome: Another Italian is reportedly believed to have died while fighting in Ukraine, as reported by Corriere della Sera on Wednesday. This news follows the earlier confirmation of the death of a fellow Italian volunteer in the same conflict.

According to Ansa News Agency, the second individual presumed to have fallen in combat is identified as Manuel Mameli, a 25-year-old from Cagliari. Mameli has been missing since May 18, yet he has not been officially declared as missing in action by any authorities.

Earlier on Wednesday, Memorial, an organization known as the Association of International Volunteers for Ukraine, confirmed the death of Italian volunteer Antonio Omar Dridi. Dridi had been fighting for Kyiv against Russian forces and was reported missing since March 27. His passing marks him as the fifth Italian volunteer to have died in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Memorial urged the public to remember Dridi, stating, “Please Help us Honor Him so that He Is Not Forgotten.” The post further expressed, “Our Beloved Italian Brother Antonio Omar Dridi, who had been serving in Ukraine as a Volunteer succumbed on the Battlefield. Honor, Glory and Gratitude To Our Brother.”

The situation underscores the significant involvement of international volunteers in the Ukraine conflict and highlights the personal sacrifices made by individuals like Dridi and Mameli.
