Ambassador Bartoli Strengthens Indo-Italian Ties in Gujarat
Ahmedabad: A bond that has its roots in history and now looks to the future with ambition and concreteness. Italian Ambassador to India Antonio Bartoli highlighted the enduring trade ties between Italy and Gujarat, dating back to ancient Roman times, during his meeting with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel. The discussion focused on enhancing cooperation in areas such as ports and logistics, waste-to-energy, innovation, mobility, culture, sports, food processing, and auto components, emphasizing a shared Indo-Mediterranean space within the framework of the Imec initiative.
According to Ansa News Agency, Ambassador Bartoli’s visit was the concluding leg of the Days of Italian Fashion in India, an event organized by the Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Delhi. After stops in Delhi and Mumbai, the event concluded in Ahmedabad. During his Gujarat visit, Bartoli met with top management of the Adani Group and toured Gift City, a special economic zone for financial and technology services. He also visited the Lothal Archaeological Park, a 4,500-year-old river port, and the site of the National Maritime Heritage Complex, exploring potential collaborations with the Indian government.
The ambassador further engaged with the rector of Ahmedabad University to evaluate future collaborations on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and innovation, inspired by a recent agreement with the University of Bergamo. The potential introduction of Italian language teaching in a Montessori-inspired school was also considered. His final visit was to the Mill Owners Building, a Le Corbusier-designed structure, where the Milan Polytechnic is involved in restoration efforts, with prospects of creating an exhibition space for Italian design.
