AI Adoption Among EU Companies Rises to 13.5% in 2024


Brussels: In 2024, 13.5% of EU companies with 10 or more employees utilized artificial intelligence technologies, marking a 5.5 percentage point increase from the previous year.



According to Ansa News Agency, Denmark, Sweden, and Belgium lead in AI adoption, with 27.6%, 25.1%, and 24.7% of companies respectively using AI technologies. Conversely, Romania, Poland, and Bulgaria report the lowest adoption rates, with only 3.1%, 5.9%, and 6.5% of businesses using AI. Italy shows a notable rise to 8.2%, up from 5.05% in 2023.



All EU countries have seen an uptick in AI usage, with Sweden experiencing the largest increase of 14.7%, followed by Denmark and Belgium with increases of 12.4% and 10.9% respectively. On the other hand, Portugal, Romania, and Spain showed more modest growth in AI adoption.



The information and communication sector exhibited the highest usage of AI in 2024, with 48.72% of enterprises integrating these technologies, followed by the professional, scientific, and technical services sector at 30.53%. Other sectors reported AI adoption rates below 16%, with real estate activities and housing and construction showing the lowest usage.



In terms of specific AI technologies, written language analysis or text mining was the most popular, used by 6.9% of businesses. Natural language generation followed, utilized by 5.4% of companies, a 3.3% increase from 2023. Voice recognition technologies were used by 4.8% of businesses, marking a 2.2% increase from the previous year.
