Abducted Baby’s Mother Experiences Emotional Rebirth After Dramatic Rescue

Cosenza: The mother of a one-day-old baby, who was abducted by a couple from the Sacro Cuore clinic in Cosenza, shared her profound emotional journey after the safe return of her daughter, Sofia. The baby was found three hours after her abduction following an extensive police operation.

According to Ansa News Agency, the mother, a 24-year-old housewife, expressed her gratitude in a heartfelt Facebook post, highlighting the overwhelming support she received from across Italy. She praised the police for their exceptional work in reuniting her with her daughter when she had lost all hope. “A mother and father died and were reborn yesterday,” she wrote, capturing the emotional intensity of the ordeal.

The police arrested Rosa Vespa, a 51-year-old from Cosenza, and her husband Acqua Moses, a 43-year-old Senegalese national, for the abduction. Vespa, who had been claiming to be pregnant for nine months, posed as a nurse to abduct the baby, allegedly to present her as her own child. The couple was apprehended after being identified through surveillance footage from the clinic.

Investigative sources revealed that the footage showed a dispute between the couple before taking the baby, indicating a possible mix-up due to Vespa’s desire for a boy. The baby was safely returned to the clinic for her mother to reunite with her, and subsequently taken to Annunziata hospital for a health check. Healthcare officials confirmed that Sofia was in good health, allowing her father to bring her home.

The family, overwhelmed with relief and gratitude, prepared to return home on Wednesday. The father expressed his joy at being able to embrace his daughter again, affirming her well-being after the traumatic event.
