40 Migrants Dead, 30 Rescued After Shipwreck Off Tunisia
Tunis: Some 40 migrants are dead, and another 30 have been rescued after a shipwreck off Tunisia, sources said Wednesday. Forty sub-Saharan migrants, including several newborns, died after their boat capsized off the coast of Salakta, in Tunisia’s Mahdia governorate.
According to Ansa News Agency, local radio station Mosaique reported the incident, citing Mahdia court spokesman Walid Chatrbi, who said another 30 migrants were rescued by coast guard units. The tragic event has prompted the Public Prosecutor’s Office to open an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shipwreck.
