20,000 Nurses to Be Hired With 2026 Budget, Says Health Minister Schillaci

Rome: Some 20,000 nurses are to be hired by the national health service with the 2026 budget, Health Minister Orazio Schillaci said Monday. “Nurses are at the heart of the budget: 20,000 more will be hired than the natural turnover,” Schillaci stated on the sidelines of the Red Cross Florence Nightingale Medal ceremony at the Ministry of Health.

According to Ansa News Agency, the minister emphasized that, subject to the provisions of the budget law, the responsibility will fall on the Regions to hire nurses and doctors within their financial limits. Schillaci indicated that as the Health Fund expands, the Regions will have an enhanced opportunity and capacity to bring in new staff.
