16 Femicides in Italy Since Start of 2025

Rome: There have been 16 femicides in Italy since the start of the year, two more than the same period last year, following the murder of a 14-year-old by her ex-boyfriend.

According to Ansa News Agency, the victims have been subjected to brutal acts such as stabbing, strangulation, and being hit with scissors or stones. Many of these crimes are perpetrated by husbands or ex-partners. Six of these femicides occurred in the first two months of 2025 alone.

The most recent case occurred in the province of Naples, where 14-year-old Martina Carbonaro was killed by her ex-boyfriend, who later confessed. In another tragic incident, Teodora Kamenova, a 47-year-old Bulgarian citizen, was stabbed to death by her partner in Civitavecchia on May 15. The perpetrator, a 54-year-old Venezuelan citizen, surrendered to the police after the crime.

In Bitonto, in the province of Bari, 74-year-old Lucia Chiapperini was killed by her husband with 22 cuts of scissors on April 18. Audio recordings capture her husband’s final words to her, before he called emergency services.

On April 17, Samia Rejab Kedim, 46, was killed in Udine by her ex-husband, who was under house arrest. He managed to reach her during a leave and committed the act, then attempted suicide.

In Samarate, Teresa Stabile, 55, was stabbed while getting into her car. Her husband, from whom she was separating, had indicated his intentions in suicide letters.

On April 2, the body of 22-year-old student Ilaria Sula was found in a suitcase at the bottom of a cliff near Rome. Her ex-boyfriend was arrested for the murder. Days earlier, on March 31, Sara Campanella, another 22-year-old student, was fatally stabbed in Messina by a fellow university student.

March 26 saw the murder of 36-year-old Laura Papadia in Spoleto, strangled by her husband amid disagreements over having a child. In Naples, on March 21, Ivan Chornenhyy killed his wife, Ruslana Chornenka, before taking his own life. The discovery was made by their 17-year-old daughter.

On March 13, Sabrina Baldini Paleni, a health worker, was strangled by her partner in Chignolo Po. The series of incidents highlights a disturbing trend of violence against women in Italy.
