Zelensky Expresses Gratitude to Pope, Criticizes Moscow’s Rejection of Peace Talks

Vatican city: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his gratitude to Pope Leo XIV for his support following their meeting at Castel Gandolfo. Zelensky emphasized that Moscow had turned down the US pontiff’s proposals to conduct Ukraine-Russia peace talks at the Vatican.

According to Ansa News Agency, Zelensky took to Telegram to convey his appreciation for the meeting and the comprehensive discussion he had with Pope Leo XIV. He acknowledged the pope’s support and prayers for peace in Ukraine, highlighting the importance of these efforts in the ongoing conflict.

Zelensky reiterated that the proposal to host peace talks at the Vatican aimed at ending Russian aggression and establishing a stable and genuine peace remains available. He pointed out that it is only Moscow that is currently rejecting this and other peace proposals, underscoring the ongoing challenges in achieving diplomatic progress.
