Rome: Many of the world’s leaders are reportedly eager to establish closer ties with Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni.

According to Ansa News Agency, The Times highlighted this growing phenomenon, dedicating its front page to an article by Rome correspondent Tom Kington. The article was titled ‘Crazy about Giorgia Meloni’ and focused on the multitude of photographs depicting international leaders appearing delighted to be seen with the Italian Prime Minister, often captured in friendly and jovial interactions.

Kington’s article suggests that this trend is not limited to leaders of a specific political orientation. Instead, it spans a broad spectrum of heads of state and government, drawn not only to Meloni’s feminine appeal but also to her ability to build strong personal connections, her spontaneous demeanor, and her sense of humor. Her “quick wit,” referred to in Italian as “battuta pronta,” was also noted as a significant factor in her appeal.

As evidence, The Times presented a series of recent images featuring Meloni warmly greeting leaders such as Donald Trump, Keir Starmer, and JD Vance. A particularly notable moment included the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama’s gesture of genuflection towards Meloni at a recent pan-European summit in Tirana. Meloni’s amused response, “No, Edi!”, followed by a customary embrace, was highlighted as an example of her approachable nature.

Kington further explored Meloni’s engaging personality through the perspectives of her Italian friends and adversaries. He emphasized her ability to connect with a diverse range of colleagues from varying backgrounds, including Elon Musk, Ursula von der Leyen, Argentine President Javier Milei, and Indian leader Narendra Modi. Notably, Kington mentioned that Meloni’s relationship with Modi has been so congenial that local media coined the term ‘Melodi’ to describe their rapport, a blend of their last names.
