Florence: A young woman who was dismissed from her job at a gelateria in Florence for consistently arriving late has been reinstated following a court decision. The judges determined that frequent delays on commuter trains in the region made it impossible for her to reach the Tuscan capital on time.
According to Ansa News Agency, the court ruled that the company had placed the woman in a precarious situation by exposing her to the risk of frequent morning delays. These delays were attributed to continuous disruptions on the regional railway lines, which also saw reduced service frequencies on Sundays and holidays.
The woman resides in Pontassieve, approximately 14 kilometers or nine miles east of Florence. Her case, which highlights the challenges faced by commuters reliant on public transportation, was reported in the Corriere Fiorentino.
