Visits to Pope’s Tomb Open to Public Starting April 27

Rome: The tomb of the recently deceased Pope will be open for public visits at Santa Maria Maggiore from the morning of Sunday, April 27. This announcement was made by Matteo Bruni, the director of the Vatican press office, on Thursday. The Pope’s burial took place at the Roman basilica, a site he cherished deeply during his lifetime.

According to Ansa News Agency, Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday at the age of 88. He had a longstanding tradition of praying to the Virgin Mary at this basilica, located near Termini Station, both before and after his international travels. The shrine, which features an image of the Virgin Mary as the protector of Rome, held significant importance for him.

The Pope’s burial ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, where his simple coffin will be interred in the ground near the revered shrine. The event is expected to draw attendance from numerous world leaders and religious figures from across the globe.
