US Whiskey Exempted from EU Countertariffs, Confirms Italian Wine Union
Rome: The Italian wine union announced that US whiskey will not be subjected to European Union countertariffs following the tariff actions initiated by President Donald Trump. This development was shared by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani with Lamberto Frescobaldi, President of the Italian Wine Union (UIV), during the Vinitaly event.
According to Ansa News Agency, President Frescobaldi expressed gratitude towards Minister Tajani for addressing and resolving a crucial issue for the wine sector. He emphasized the significance of this decision by stating, “I would also like to thank the Minister on behalf of the Italian Wine Union for having accepted and successfully completed a request of fundamental importance for our sector.”
The EU had initially planned to impose additional tariffs on American spirits, which were later put on hold after President Trump warned of retaliatory tariffs as high as 200%.
