Urgent to Encourage Christians’ Involvement in Politics – CEI
Rome: The Italian Bishops Conference (CEI) on Wednesday highlighted the urgent need for Christians to get involved in the political life of Italy and of Europe. Italian bishops emphasized the importance of a renewed presence of Christians in political spheres, both nationally and across Europe.
According to Ansa News Agency, the president of CEI, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, noted the appreciation for attempts made by groups and individuals who have regained vigor in political engagement. This renewed interest is partly attributed to initiatives such as the annual political event for Italian Catholics, the Social Week of Trieste. The final statement of CEI’s Permanent Episcopal Council underscored this sentiment.
Cardinal Matteo Zuppi had previously hailed efforts for increased Christian involvement in politics during a session of the Permanent Episcopal Council. His remarks on Monday underscored the need for Christians to play an active role in shaping political discourse in Italy and Europe, with the Social Week of Trieste being a significant platform for such engagement.
