Turkish Intelligence Strikes 157 PKK/YPG Targets in Northern Syria and Iraq

ISTANBUL: The Turkish National Intelligence Organization has carried out operations targeting 157 sites affiliated with the PKK/YPG in northern Syria and Iraq, effectively dismantling safe havens and destroying weapons and ammunition depots, a security source reported on Saturday. This military action comes in response to a recent terrorist attack in Ankara that resulted in significant casualties.

According to Anadolu Agency, the operations were initiated after a PKK terrorist attack on the Turkish Aerospace Industries headquarters in Ankara on Wednesday, which claimed the lives of five individuals and left 22 others injured. Between October 23 and October 26, Turkish intelligence targeted and destroyed numerous PKK/YPG locations in the region.

The operations utilized domestically-produced defense technology, notably TUSAS-manufactured ANKA drones, which were instrumental in carrying out the successful strikes. The PKK, recognized as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States, and the European Un
ion, has been engaged in a violent campaign against Turkey for four decades, resulting in over 40,000 deaths, including those of women, children, and the elderly. The YPG functions as the PKK’s Syrian branch.

Since 2016, Turkey has conducted several anti-terror operations in northern Syria, including Euphrates Shield, Olive Branch, and Peace Spring, aiming to prevent the establishment of a terror corridor and facilitate the safe resettlement of local populations.
