Trump Plan Puts Middle East Turning Point Within Reach, Says Tajani

Rome: US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza has put a positive future for the Middle East within reach, with Italy playing an active role in fostering this development, Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told the Lower House on Wednesday. Tajani emphasized the potential for a historic transformation in the region, stating that the peace initiative could alter the face of the Middle East and the Mediterranean.

According to Ansa News Agency, Tajani acknowledged that the success of the peace plan remains uncertain due to unresolved issues, including the return of murdered hostages’ bodies and the disbandment of Hamas’s military structure. Despite these challenges, he expressed optimism, highlighting that the enduring hope for peace comes from the collective desire of people on both sides who have endured significant suffering.

Tajani underscored the plight of innocent victims and survivors who are in dire need of food, medical care, and, most importantly, security and hope for their f
uture. He articulated that the current situation represents a burgeoning hope, suggesting that a peaceful future is now closer than ever.

The Italian government has been a steadfast supporter of the peace process from the outset, focusing on maintaining dialogue between involved parties and alleviating the Palestinian civilian population’s suffering. Tajani expressed pride in Italy’s efforts, noting the country’s unique position in maintaining communication channels with both Israel and the Palestinian National Authority.

Italy’s commitment to building bridges, despite opposition, has been a testament to its dedication to peace. Premier Meloni’s presence at the signing of the peace agreements in Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday further underscores Italy’s recognized and appreciated role in these efforts, particularly by the United States and other international partners.
