Totally Against Halving Time for Citizenship Says Meloni
Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni stated Thursday she was totally against halving the time needed for migrant children to obtain Italian citizenship, from 10 years to five, as advocated in an upcoming referendum. “I am totally against halving the time for citizenship,” she affirmed.
According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni elaborated that the citizenship law in Italy is excellent and, among other things, very open. She highlighted that Italy has been among the European nations granting the highest number of citizenships yearly. Meloni emphasized the importance of speeding up the bureaucratic process once the right to access citizenship is acquired, noting it as an area of interest and focus for her government.
However, she firmly stated her opposition to contributing to a referendum aimed at reducing the term for granting citizenship to foreigners in Italy to five years. Meloni made these remarks while attending the second edition of “Il giorno de La Verit “, a conservative daily, held at Palazzo Brancaccio in Rome.
