Thunderstorms and Rain Set to Sweep Across Italy From North to South

Rome: A phase of extreme severe weather in Italy has been confirmed, moving from the North and Tuscany toward the rest of Central Italy and locally the South, Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist and media manager for iLMeteo.it., said Friday.

According to Ansa News Agency, the situation will continue to be closely monitored for another 24 hours. From Saturday afternoon, however, the sun is expected to shine almost everywhere. The severe weather, linked to former Hurricane Erin still centered in the British Isles, will initially impact the North and Tuscany with violent phenomena, particularly affecting Lombardy, Triveneto, Eastern Liguria, Tuscany, Umbria, and Upper Lazio.

By the end of Friday, the severe weather is expected to reach the inland Marche region, all of Lazio, and Campania. Late in the day, southern Lazio and Campania will experience the most intense weather, with violent thunderstorms anticipated.

Rain is forecasted to continue in patches across much of the country, with a resurgence of low-level weather moving toward northwest Italy and Tuscany in the evening after a brief respite. On Saturday, the severe weather is projected to move toward the Balkans but will still affect Italy with widespread low-level weather. Showers are expected, particularly in the Triveneto region, and from Tuscany and Lazio, rapidly moving toward the Adriatic regions as far as Salento.

Rain is not expected on the major islands, and conditions are anticipated to improve rapidly across Italy from the afternoon. On Sunday, widespread sunshine is expected, although further deterioration is anticipated in the evening in the Northwest due to the arrival of another low-pressure system linked to former Hurricane Erin, a cyclone still active between the British Isles and Iceland, as is typical in autumn.
