Tajani Supports Two-State Solution to Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

Ashdod: Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani emphasized Italy’s support for a two-State solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, asserting that any other approach would be wrong and counterproductive. During his visit to the Israeli port of Ashdod, Tajani underscored the importance of Italy’s active role in promoting peace and ensuring the continuation of a ceasefire with the ultimate goal of unifying Palestine.

According to Ansa News Agency, Tajani articulated Italy’s position, stating, “The Italian position is clear, two peoples and two States, the newborn Palestinian State will need to recognize Israel and will have to be recognized by Israel.” He stressed that alternatives to this approach would be unrealistic and counterproductive.

Tajani’s visit to Ashdod was part of a mission alongside University and Research Minister Anna Maria Bernini. They participated in a ceremony to present aid donated by Italy to the World Food Program as part of the Food for Gaza initiative, which included 15 tons of essential goods for Palestinian civilians.

On Wednesday, Tajani mentioned that Italy would consider United States President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza. However, he reaffirmed that Rome remains committed to a two-State solution. Trump’s recent comments suggested that the US would take over the Gaza Strip and proposed that Palestinians could live “peace and harmony” elsewhere, which he announced during a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.
