Tagle Overtakes Parolin to Become Conclave Favourite


Vatican City: Filipino Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle overtook Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin to become the bookmakers’ favourite to become the new pope on the second day of the conclave on Thursday.



According to Ansa News Agency, the odds on Tagle were down to 3-1 for William Hill, while those on Parolin were 7-2. Next in line were Italian cardinals Matteo Zuppi and Pierbattista Pizzaballa, both with odds of 6-1. Meanwhile, the odds on Ghana’s Peter Turkson lengthened from 5-1 to 9-1.



French prelate Jean-Marc Aveline experienced a significant leap forward, with his odds dropping from 33-1 six days ago to 18-1 now.
