Strike Legitimate, We Challenge Watchdog Ruling: Landini

Rome: CGIL trade union General Secretary Maurizio Landini stated Thursday that the general strike organized by CGIL and the grass-roots union USB, planned for Friday regarding the situation in Gaza and Israel’s halt to the Global Sumud Flotilla, is legitimate. Landini expressed the unions’ intent to contest a ruling from Italy’s strike watchdog that deemed the strike illegitimate.

According to Ansa News Agency, Landini emphasized that the strike complies with Law 146, which allows for strike action without notice in cases of constitutional violations or threats to workers’ health and safety. Landini affirmed the unions’ commitment to proceed with the strike and challenge the Commission’s decision, highlighting their readiness to contest any sanctions that might arise from their actions.

Landini further stressed that constitutional norms are not being upheld, pointing out the lack of protection for compatriots arrested by Israel in international waters. The unions remain steadfast in their resolve to defend their rights and challenge any rulings they view as unjust.
