St. Mark’s Bell Tower in Venice Reopens to Public Just in Time for Carnival

Venice: The Bell Tower of St. Mark in Venice has reopened to the public, coinciding with the culmination of Carnival on ‘Fat Tuesday’. The reopening marks the end of a series of renovation works, offering Carnival visitors a chance to admire the city and its lagoon from a remarkable vantage point.

According to Ansa News Agency, the renovation efforts included crucial updates to the elevator system, including the replacement of the more than 70-year-old winch and the compensation chain. The electrical system was also revised and adapted to ensure maximum safety and efficiency for visitors.

In addition to these mechanical upgrades, extensive cleaning work was undertaken. The bronze sculptures on the exterior of the loggia, the windows, internal rooms, brass components of the elevator, and the bells themselves were all meticulously cleaned. The bell lodge is now fully visible, with the bells exposed and free from superficial pollution, enhancing the visitor experience at this historic site.
