Spike in Landings Due to Power Vacuum on Libyan Coasts

Rome: A sudden spike in migrant landings in Italy recorded in recent weeks is thought to be linked to a power vacuum that has developed on part of the coast of the western Libyan area of Tripolitania. Militias have taken control of some ports and believe they could make huge profits by sending numerous boats in a short period, an Italian government immigration summit at Palazzo Chigi revealed.

According to Ansa News Agency, the situation appears more stable now, partly due to less favorable sea conditions for departures. This stability is also attributed to intelligence information, which has provided insights into the evolving circumstances on the Libyan coast.

The Italian government is reportedly aiming to initiate discussions with Bangladesh and Pakistan, identified as the countries of origin for the largest number of migrants this year, in an effort to slow the rate of departures.
