Soccer: Napoli’s Serie A Lead Diminishes to One Point After Draw Against Genoa

Naples: Napoli’s lead at the top of Serie A has been reduced to just one point with two games remaining, following a 2-2 draw at home against Genoa. Meanwhile, reigning champions Inter secured a 2-0 victory over Torino.

According to Ansa News Agency, Napoli took the lead twice during the match with goals from Romelu Lukaku and Giacomo Raspadori. However, Genoa managed to equalize on both occasions, first through an own goal by Napoli’s goalkeeper Alex Meret and later with a header from Johan Vasquez.

Inter, currently in second place, capitalized on Napoli’s slip-up by narrowing the gap with their own win. Nicola Zalewski and Kristjan Asllani scored in the rain-soaked match in Turin, helping Inter close in on the top spot.

AS Roma, positioned in sixth place with 63 points, have a chance to climb to fourth and secure a spot in the Champions League qualification zone. This opportunity comes as they face third-placed Atalanta in Bergamo. Roma currently trail fourth-placed Juventus and fifth-placed Lazio, who p
layed to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Johan Vasquez’s decisive header brought Genoa level late in the match at a crowded Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, silencing the home fans. Giacomo Raspadori appeared to have clinched the victory for Napoli with a skillful finish in the 64th minute after a precise pass from Scott McTominay. Earlier, McTominay also assisted Romelu Lukaku’s opening goal in the 15th minute. However, Napoli’s advantage was short-lived as Honest Ahanor’s header was inadvertently deflected by goalkeeper Alex Meret into his own net in the 32nd minute.

The result was a boost for Inter, who celebrated their second away win in eight Serie A matches, as Vasquez’s powerful header secured Genoa’s late equalizer under challenging weather conditions.
