Sinner Withdraws from Davis Cup Finals in Bologna
Bologna: Jannik Sinner won’t play the Davis Cup finals in Bologna in November, non-playing captain Filippo Volandri said Monday. Volandri announced that Sinner, who is currently ranked world number two, has opted out of the tournament. This decision comes shortly after Sinner’s victory over Carlos Alcaraz, where he successfully defended his Six Kings Slam title in Riyadh over the weekend.
According to Ansa News Agency, Volandri confirmed that Sinner communicated his unavailability for the Davis Cup finals, a crucial event where Italy aims for a third consecutive victory following their 2023 and 2024 triumphs. In response to Sinner’s withdrawal, Volandri has selected a new lineup for the national team. The team will now consist of Matteo Berrettini, Simone Bolelli, Flavio Cobolli, Lorenzo Musetti, and Andrea Vavassori.
The absence of Sinner, a significant player on the Italian team, is a notable change as Italy looks to continue its winning streak in the prestigious international tournament.
