Sinner Makes Strong Start to French Open Campaign
Paris: Italy’s world number one Jannik Sinner made a strong start to his French Open campaign on Monday, defeating France’s Arthur Rinderknech 6-4, 6-3, 7-5.
According to Ansa News Agency, the match was not as straightforward as the scoreline suggests, as Sinner had to come from two breaks down in the third set before prevailing. “First-round matches are never easy, so I’m very happy with how I handled the situation, especially in the third set,” Sinner said.
Sinner expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating, “Coming through in straight sets for me means a lot.” He acknowledged the familiarity between him and Rinderknech, saying, “Me and him, we’ve played already a couple of times before, so we know each other already. He is an amazing player.”
In the second round, Sinner will face another favorite of the home crowd, Richard Gasquet, who is set to retire after the tournament.
