Sinner ‘Doesn’t Feel a Winner’ After Dimitrov Withdrawal
London: Italy’s world number one Jannik Sinner expressed his mixed feelings after advancing to the Wimbledon quarter-finals on Monday. His progression came as a result of Grigor Dimitrov withdrawing from their last-16 match due to an injury, despite the Bulgarian being in a commanding position.
According to Ansa News Agency, the 23-year-old Sinner was trailing by two sets when Dimitrov was forced to pull out. Sinner conveyed his thoughts, stating, “If there would be a chance that he could play the next round, he would deserve it.” This sentiment highlights Sinner’s sportsmanship and the unusual circumstances of his advancement.
Sinner revealed that he would undergo tests on his elbow on Tuesday, following an injury sustained during a fall in the first game of the match. This adds another layer of complexity to his progression in the tournament, as he prepares to face American 10th seed Ben Shelton in the quarter-finals. Shelton secured his place by defeating Italian Lorenzo Sonego on Monday.
