Simona Izzo and Ricky Tognazzi Attend Screening at Eu Film Festival in Oman
Muscat: A screening of the film ‘Francesca e Giovanni,’ which delves into the life of Judge Giovanni Falcone through the perspective of his wife, magistrate Francesca Morvillo, was recently held in Muscat, Oman. This event was part of the second edition of the Eu Film Festival 2025 and featured the presence of directors Simona Izzo and Ricky Tognazzi.
According to Ansa News Agency, the initiative was organized by the Embassy of Italy in Oman and was further enriched by a debate titled ‘Beyond boundaries: Women’s Empowerment through Culture and Storytelling.’ This debate included prominent figures from both Omani and international cultural and social circles, such as lawyer and human rights activist Reem Al Zadjali, author of the book ‘Women and Law,’ and Sudh Sha, the director of the International Film Foundation in Oman. Renowned writer Jokha Al Harthi, known for her novels on the evolution of women in Omani society, also took part in the discussion.
Ambassador Pierluigi D’Elia emphasized, “The event is on
e of many Italian contributions to the European film festival.” He highlighted additional activities such as a seminar on production and post-production at the ‘Scientific College of Design,’ a documentary filmmaking workshop, and exchanges between Italian professionals and local talents. These initiatives aim to boost cultural and professional exchanges in Oman’s burgeoning film sector.
The visit of Simona Izzo and Ricky Tognazzi is a key component of the European Film Festival’s comprehensive program, which includes seminars and workshops designed to enhance collaboration between Italian and Omani film industries. Institutional meetings are also scheduled with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, and the Oman Film Society, to explore future collaboration and co-production opportunities. These efforts aim to strengthen cultural relations between Italy and Oman, and promote the ‘Made in Italy’ brand in the creative and film sectors.
