Sea Watch Deploys Vessel to Rescue Migrants Stranded on Tunisian Oil Rig

Lampedusa: The Aurora vessel, operated by the charity Sea Watch, has set sail from Lampedusa towards the Miskar oil rig off the coast of Tunisia to rescue a group of migrants who have been stranded there for four days, as reported by sources within the migrant-rescue NGO on Tuesday.

According to Ansa News Agency, a reconnaissance plane operated by Sea Watch initially spotted the group on the oil platform on Saturday. An empty rubber dinghy was observed floating nearby, suggesting the migrants’ perilous journey from Libya.

The group of 32 individuals, which includes women and children, is in urgent need of assistance. Sea Watch has stressed that no other entity is conducting a rescue, and the oil platform is not equipped to provide the necessary care for these individuals.

Tragically, the NGO Mediterranea Saving Humans, alongside Sea Watch, has reported that one of the dinghy’s passengers has allegedly died during this ordeal.
