Responsibility for Peace in Putin’s Hands, Says Italian Deputy Premier Tajani

London: Italian Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stated on Monday that the responsibility for achieving peace in Ukraine lies with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This statement follows Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s readiness to meet Putin in Istanbul on Thursday for potential peace talks.

According to Ansa News Agency, Tajani expressed hope that Moscow would recognize Zelensky’s willingness to engage in direct negotiations and highlighted the collective commitment to achieving peace. Speaking at a meeting of the Weimer+ alliance and Kyiv in London, Tajani emphasized that the current responsibility for peace rests entirely with Putin and the Russian Federation.

Tajani noted that recent signals were not encouraging due to overnight attacks, underscoring that a ceasefire remains essential for initiating serious negotiations. The Italian Deputy Premier stressed that the decision for peace is ultimately in the hands of the Russian leadership.
