Prepared for Potential Violence at General Strike, Says Piantedosi

Naples: Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi stated Thursday that Italian authorities and police are ready for the possibility that Friday’s general strike and demonstrations for Gaza could escalate into violence. Regarding the general strike called by the CGIL and USB trade unions, he emphasized that preparations have already been made, with significant efforts concentrated in certain cities.

According to Ansa News Agency, Piantedosi noted, “We’ve witnessed the usual scenes of these demonstrations, which sometimes have consequences that aren’t always plausible, but I trust in the reasonableness of the majority of the protesters on the one hand, and the well-established professionalism of our police forces on the other.” The minister’s remarks were made during an event in Naples organized by the weekly magazine “Panorama.”
