Pope Visits Rome Prison on Holy Thursday

Rome: Pope Francis on Thursday visited Regina Coeli prison in Rome for a Holy Thursday meet and greet with around 70 prisoners, to whom he gave a copy of the Gospel. The visit marks a continuation of the pontiff’s engagement with prisoners, reflecting his commitment to outreach and compassion.

According to Ansa News Agency, Pope Francis, who is recovering after 38 days in hospital battling pneumonia, had previously visited the Roman penitentiary on Holy Thursday in 2018. During that visit, he celebrated the Mass ‘in Coena Domini’ (The Lord’s Supper) and performed the traditional rite of washing feet, commemorating the actions of Jesus at the Last Supper.

The pontiff remains weak and is working to regain his full voice following the severe pneumonia, which had twice led to serious concerns from his doctors. Despite his recent health challenges, there is speculation that he may participate in Easter celebrations, although no official announcements have been made regarding this possibility.
