Rome: Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s mission to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan has been formally canceled following the death of Pope Francis, whose funeral will be held on Saturday, Palazzo Chigi sources said Tuesday. The trip, initially scheduled for Friday to Sunday, will be rescheduled in the coming weeks, said the premier’s office.
According to Ansa News Agency, the decision to postpone the trip was made as a mark of respect and to allow the prime minister and other officials to attend the funeral services. The trip was intended to strengthen diplomatic relations and discuss various bilateral agreements with both nations. The premier’s office is currently coordinating with the embassies of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to determine a suitable future date for the visit.
