Pope Leo XIV Urges End to Arrogance and Revenge in Middle East

Vatican City: Pope Leo XIV called for an end to violence in the Middle East during his weekly general audience at St Peter’s Square on Wednesday. “May the wounds caused by the bloody events of recent days be healed,” the American pontiff stated, emphasizing the need for peace and reconciliation.

According to Ansa News Agency, the pope urged the rejection of “all logic of arrogance and revenge,” advocating for a determined pursuit of dialogue, diplomacy, and peace. His comments come in the wake of escalating tensions and recent violent events in the region.

Pope Leo XIV also highlighted the plight of Syria, urging the world not to ignore the ongoing conflict there, especially after a “cowardly terrorist attack” on the Greek Orthodox church of Mar Elias in Damascus on Sunday. He expressed solidarity with Christians in the Middle East, assuring them of the Church’s support and closeness during these turbulent times.
