Vatican City: The Vatican said in its daily bulletin on Thursday that Pope Leo XIV has made his first appointment since being elected the leader of the Catholic Church a week ago. It was announced that the American-Peruvian pontiff has chosen Father Miguel ngel Contreras Llajaruna, S.M., as the auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Callao, Peru, assigning him the titular see of Babra.
According to Ansa News Agency, Father Miguel ngel Contreras Llajaruna currently serves as the episcopal vicar for Consecrated Life of the diocese of Callao and holds the position of superior of the Am©rica del Sur district of the Marist Fathers. This appointment marks a significant moment in Pope Leo XIV’s papacy, reflecting his commitment to strengthening the leadership within the Church.
