Pope Leo XIV Makes His First Appointment

Vatican City: The Vatican said in its daily bulletin on Thursday that Pope Leo XIV has made his first appointment since being elected the leader of the Catholic Church a week ago. It was announced that the American-Peruvian pontiff has chosen Father Miguel ngel Contreras Llajaruna, S.M., as the auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Callao, Peru, assigning him the titular see of Babra.

According to Ansa News Agency, Father Miguel ngel Contreras Llajaruna currently serves as the episcopal vicar for Consecrated Life of the diocese of Callao and holds the position of superior of the Am©rica del Sur district of the Marist Fathers. This appointment marks a significant moment in Pope Leo XIV’s papacy, reflecting his commitment to strengthening the leadership within the Church.
