Pope Leo XIV Continues Papal Social Media Presence on X and Instagram

Vatican City: Pope Leo XIV has opted to maintain an active presence on social media through the official papal accounts on X and Instagram.

According to Ansa News Agency, starting today, the Dicastery for Communications announced that Pope Leo XIV inherits the @Pontifex accounts on X that were previously used by Pope Francis and, before him, by Pope Benedict XVI. These accounts publish in nine languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, German, Polish, Arabic, and Latin, and collectively reach a total of 52 million followers.

The content previously published by Pope Francis on these platforms will soon be archived in a special section of the institutional website of the Holy See, Vatican.va. On Instagram, the account is named @Pontifex – Pope Leo XIV, continuing the tradition set by Pope Francis with his account @Franciscus.
