Pope Francis Visits Regina Coeli Prison for Holy Thursday

Rome: Pope Francis on Thursday visited Regina Coeli prison in Rome for a Holy Thursday interaction with approximately 40 inmates. During his visit, he presented each prisoner with a copy of the Gospel.

According to Ansa News Agency, the pontiff’s visit comes as he is recovering from a serious bout of pneumonia that kept him hospitalized for 38 days. This is not Pope Francis’ first visit to the Roman penitentiary; he previously visited on Holy Thursday in 2018. During that visit, he celebrated the Mass ‘in Coena Domini’ (The Lord’s Supper) and performed the traditional rite of washing feet, mirroring Jesus’ actions at the Last Supper.

Despite still being weak and working to regain his full voice after the illness, Pope Francis showed his commitment to continuing his duties. Although there have been no official announcements, he may participate in some of the Easter celebrations.
