Pomigliano Police Arrest 27 in Anti-Camorra Operation

Pomigliano d’Arco: Carabinieri police in Pomigliano d’Arco near Naples have arrested 27 people as part of an operation coordinated by DDA anti-mafia investigators to dismantle two rival clans of the local Camorra crime syndicate, investigative sources said on Monday.

According to Ansa News Agency, twenty-three arrest warrants were served on detainees while four other suspects were placed under house arrest on charges of Mafia-style criminal association, extortion, public intimidation with the use of firearms, arson attack, attempted murder, criminal association aimed at drug trafficking, usury, and abduction, among others.

The arrest warrants were issued by a preliminary investigations judge (GIP) in Naples at the request of the DDA against alleged affiliates of rival criminal clans “Ferretti” and “Cipolletta”, accused of operating in Pomigliano d’Arco and the area around it.

The two alleged clans are suspected of controlling the local drugs market and are believed to be responsible for arson attacks and attempted murders, among others, investigators said.
