Budapest: Hungary is carving out a unique stance within the European Union, emphasizing family growth and cultural values over immigration as a solution to demographic challenges. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has articulated this position, contrasting Hungary’s approach with other EU nations such as Germany and Austria, which have turned to immigration to address population decline.
According to About Hungary, PM Orbán highlighted Europe’s ongoing population crisis, characterized by an aging demographic and more deaths than births, as a trend that has developed over the past 30 to 40 years. He argued that a shift towards a family-centered culture, rather than mere financial incentives, is essential to address these demographic challenges. Orbán underscored the importance of respecting life and instilling family values as key to demographic sustainability.
On the economic front, PM Orbán expressed concern over Europe’s struggles, attributing part of the blame to Brussels’ energy policies. He noted the competi
tive disadvantage faced by European companies due to significantly higher electricity and gas prices compared to their American counterparts. Without reform in EU energy policy, Orbán warned of potential business collapses across the continent.
Addressing migration, PM Orbán delineated Hungary’s stance as opposed to welcoming foreign cultures, particularly Islamic ones, citing concerns over crime and societal issues. He criticized illegal immigration, linking it to increased crime rates and social tensions in other European nations. Hungary, he stated, remains firm in its conservative values, allowing foreign workers entry only under strict conditions.
In his critique of the EU’s political climate, Orbán accused a liberal hegemony, allegedly supported by financier George Soros, of dominating Brussels. He argued for broader representation of conservative voices in EU politics, advocating for electoral victories against liberal policies to restore what he perceives as democratic balance.
Looking ahead, Orbán
expressed optimism for what he termed ‘patriotic’ leadership within the EU. He speculated on potential political shifts in Austria and France that could lead to more people-centered governance. Furthermore, he reiterated his pro-peace stance on the Ukraine conflict, advocating for a ceasefire and peace talks. Orbán emphasized the potential role of former U.S. President Donald Trump in achieving peace, viewing him as a leader capable of fostering global stability.
