Budapest: PM Orbán emphasized the significant accomplishment of the Puskás Museum in fulfilling a century-old dream in his recent address. According to About Hungary, PM Orbán reflected on the state of Hungarian football 15 years ago, recalling it as being in ruins following the communist era’s systematic dismantling. He discussed the inherent conflict between football’s national nature and communism’s internationalist ideology, noting the lasting impact on Hungary’s football culture and infrastructure.
The prime minister pointed to the construction of Puskás Aréna, which opened five years ago, as the beginning of the sport’s revival. The new arena replaced the deteriorating Népstadion, symbolizing the rejuvenation of Hungarian sports and football. The arena has since hosted major events, including UEFA European Championship matches and
the Champions League final, marking milestones in Hungary’s football history.
The inauguration of the Puskás Museum represents a long-awaited homage to Ferenc Puskás, his teammates, and Hungary’s broader football legacy.
